Research in the Allard lab asks how evolution shapes cells and molecules to generate the remarkable diversity of traits and behaviors found in nature. The lab combines cell biology, electrophysiology, developmental biology, and comparative approaches to study organisms with unusual or specialized biology. By investigating unusual fish, sea slugs, jellyfish, cephalopods, and other distinctive organisms, the Allard lab seeks to understand how evolutionary innovation emerges across biological scales, from molecules and cells to organs and behavior. A central goal is to use unconventional model systems to uncover fundamental principles of physiology while revealing how new biological traits arise.

Corey Allard is an assistant professor in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School. He received his BS in Biology from Northeastern University and his PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Dartmouth College, followed by postdoctoral training in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. He is a Pew Biomedical Scholar and a Klingenstein Fellow.
