Camille Goemans is an assistant Professor in the School of Life Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL). After completing her PhD (FRIA national fellowship) at the de Duve Institute, Belgium, in the laboratory of Prof. Jean-François Collet, she pursued post-doctoral studies at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) with an EMBO post-doctoral fellowship, in the laboratory of Dr Nassos Typas until 2023 when she moved to the EPFL.

Camille's research focuses on understanding how antibiotics work and affect diverse bacteria, how antibiotic resistance emerges in bacterial communities and how to improve treatment against infections. To achieve this goal, her lab combines systems approaches with molecular microbiology, bacterial genetics and biochemistry.

Camille's work has been published in top journals, and her discoveries have been highlighted by national and international press. She has received numerous awards and honors for her research, including the FNRS Yourassowsky Award for best PhD Thesis (Belgium, 2020), the Christiane Nusslein-Volhard Foundation Award (Germany, 2019), the Global Grants for Gut Health Best Paper Award by Nature (2021) and the l'Oreal/UNESCO for Women in Science Award (Germany, 2020).
